What it sounds like
Built around the Hijaz sound: the step-and-a-half between E♭ and F♯ gives it its unmistakable Middle Eastern and flamenco flavour. Intense, exotic and very expressive.
Is it a good first handpan?
Maybe. It's gorgeous and distinctive, but less flexible for playing with others. Many players make it their second pan.
Try it properly before you buy one. A real G Hijaz usually costs NZ$2,000 to 4,000 and makers often have months-long queues.
In Tonefield you can play it in 3D for free, loop yourself, add a beat, turn it into a song and film it in a world of its own,
on your phone or computer. No wrong notes.
