Who runs Tonefield
Tonefield is a personal project made by Ciaran Jack in Wellington, New Zealand. It isn't a company. "We" and "us" on this page means Ciaran Jack. Questions or requests: hello@tonefield.app.
What's collected, and why
- If you just play: nothing that identifies you. Your studio (pans, songs, settings) is saved in your own browser.
- Usage counts: a random ID made by your browser (not your name), and which features get used, such as playing, recording a loop or making a video. This shows what to fix and improve. It isn't shared with anyone or used for ads.
- If you make an account: the name you choose and a passkey (your phone or computer's fingerprint, face or PIN sign-in). We never see or store a password. Your studio is saved to your account so it comes back on any device.
- If you sign in with Google or Facebook: your name and a unique account ID from them, used only to sign you in. We don't post anything or read your contacts.
- If you post to the feed: the video, recording, title and description you choose to post, shown publicly with your account name.
- The microphone: only used when you tap to record. Recordings stay on your device unless you post them.
- Basic server logs: like every website, the hosting keeps short-lived technical logs (such as IP addresses) for security and to keep things running.
Where it's kept
The site is hosted by Netlify, with Cloudflare in front of it for speed and security, so some information is stored or passes through their servers, including outside New Zealand. They're used only to run Tonefield.
How long
Account data and posts are kept until you delete them or ask us to. Unfinished uploads are removed after a day. Posts that are taken down have their media removed after 30 days.
Your choices
- Remove your posts from the feed at any time.
- Ask to see, correct or delete your account and everything linked to it: email hello@tonefield.app.
- Clearing your browser's site data removes anything stored on your device.
Under New Zealand's Privacy Act 2020 you can ask for access to and correction of your personal information. If you're not happy with how a request is handled, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner (privacy.org.nz).
Children
You need to be 13 or older to make an account or post. Anyone can play without an account.
Changes
If this changes in a way that matters, the date at the top changes and the app will let you know.
