What it sounds like
A pentatonic minor with an added second: no fourth and no sixth, so every pair of notes sits comfortably together. The low F ding gives it a warm, grounded centre, and it suits slow grooves and long, repeating patterns.
Is it a good first handpan?
Yes. With only five pitch classes there's nothing to clash, so it's one of the easiest scales to improvise on.
Try it properly before you buy one. A real F Low Pygmy usually costs NZ$2,000 to 4,000 and makers often have months-long queues.
In Tonefield you can play it in 3D for free, loop yourself, add a beat, turn it into a song and film it in a world of its own,
on your phone or computer. No wrong notes.
