What it sounds like
A low F minor where most notes sit in the bass, so it rumbles more than it rings. It's made for grooves, drones and layering under other pans.
Is it a good first handpan?
Not usually. It's a wonderful bass pan and a great second or third instrument.
Try it properly before you buy one. A real F Low Equinox usually costs NZ$2,000 to 4,000 and makers often have months-long queues.
In Tonefield you can play it in 3D for free, loop yourself, add a beat, turn it into a song and film it in a world of its own,
on your phone or computer. No wrong notes.
