What it sounds like
D natural minor (Aeolian): every note of the minor scale is there, so familiar melodies and chord shapes work. It can sound gentle or melancholy, and almost every maker builds one.
Is it a good first handpan?
Yes. It's the classic first scale: versatile, easy to play along with other instruments, and simple to sell on later.
Try it properly before you buy one. A real D Kurd usually costs NZ$2,000 to 4,000 and makers often have months-long queues.
In Tonefield you can play it in 3D for free, loop yourself, add a beat, turn it into a song and film it in a world of its own,
on your phone or computer. No wrong notes.
